Islamabad (March 08, 2024): To address the issues faced by overseas Pakistanis/foreigners with regard to mobile registration, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has developed a new mechanism to allow ‘temporary registration’ of handsets belonging to overseas Pakistanis/Foreigners visiting Pakistan for a short duration. The applicant needs to apply for a temporary registration using their login credentials and IMEIs via the PTA’s Device Identification Register and Blocking System (DIRBS). Mobile device users can register their devices through the website (https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/drs) or by dialing *8484#.

PTA will link the system to the FIA’s Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) to validate passport numbers and also with mobile operators for verification of the mobile SIM that belongs to the person applying for the passport.

PTA has launched the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS). It’s also clarified that PTA offers their Device Identifications and Database for Registration (DIRBS) system to register mobile devices at no cost to the users of the general public.

PTA only offers technical support via DIRBS by which users are able to register their mobile devices to use in Pakistan. In accordance with the regulations, the mobile devices linked to networks local via local SIM must be registered within 60 days after the initial use of the device for the local mobile network in Pakistan tax/duties collected during the process are deposited with FBR and then directly transferred to the FBR.
